Weekly Virtual STEAM Challenges

While our Museum is currently closed due to the recent COVID-19 restrictions our programming continues.

We understand that parents are juggling a lot at home at this time. We have put together some
super funself-led (means your child leads their learning), open-ended  (means can take as long or a little as you like)  projects!

Use whatever materials you have around the house to complete each challenge and be sure to check back each week - you don't want your children missing out on the fun and learning. For added fun, be sure to post your favorite photos of your children's creativity on our Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Week Five: You are Earth's Super Hero

Each of the challenges are designed to be completed over a period of several days.

Day 1. Enjoy the Video(s) and start with Activity A.
Day 2 Kids may want to watch the video(s) again if they like and then engage in Activity B and finally
Day 3 Choose to watch the video(s) again or not and engage in Activity C.

DAY 1 (Activity A) REDUCE

Create: Harness your inner conservationist. Go around your home making a "Reduce The Use" List. On your list, what are some things that your household can use less of? For example, do you have a little brother or sister that keep leaving the lights on? Or can you turn the water spout off as you brush your teeth? What's your plan to reduce waste? Share with your family.

Play: Now is the time to honor your little conservationist and their hard work. Stick to their plan to reduce waste and help the planet at the same time!

Day 2 (Activity B) REUSE & RECYCLE

Create: Get creative and have fun! What can you create something out old materials at home? Perhaps it's a robot out of old boxes and cans or maybe its a new and improved toy out of unused or broken toys? Either way, take what is one person's trash and make it your treasure!

Play: Check out what your child made and admire their creativity! Take some time to play with them and their new creation.

Day 3 (Activity C)

Create: If you could create your own holiday that helped make the world a better place, what would that holiday be? How would people celebrate it? When would it be? Create a poster that showcases your new holiday for all those around!

Play: What holiday did your child make? Can you help your child make the signature dish that is eaten on that holiday? (Like how on Thanksgiving we have turkey or on Halloween we have candy.) Enjoy!
